The HORRIBLE DOCTOR HICHCOCK (1962) Starring Barbara Steele
$20.00
LIKE NEW BluRay from Bryan Baugh's personal collection. Well-cared-for in a smoke-free home. Disk is clean, and plays fine, no scratches. Only selling it because I upgraded to a newer edition of the film.
I love this movie. It's about a doctor who has a secret kink - He's a necrophiliac. But that's okay because his wife is willing to play along. In their creepy, nightly love ritual, she happily submits while her husband gives her a drug that makes her go into a near-death, coma-like, unconscious, dormant state, allowing him to indulge his morbid fetish. Everything is going fine... Until one night when he accidentally gives her too much of the drug - and she dies for real.
The doctor moves away in despair. He meets a new lady (Barbara Steele), marries her, and then, in a much happier mood, returns to his mansion with his beautiful new wife.
From here on the story is told from Barbara Steele's point of view. One creepy thing after another happens, to make her wonder if she is being haunted by the ghost of the doctor's first wife, or if she's going crazy. It all ends in an insane crescendo that seems like a major inspiration for the ending of Dario Argento's classic 1977 film Suspiria.
Disturbing psychological Horror, rich with cobwebby, old dark house atmosphere. And it's a visual feast, lots of amazing photography with lurid colors and artful use of shadows. A+ gothic horror and a personal favorite of mine.
